Having a new baby, particularly your first, is one of the most exciting events of your life, but at times it can also feel like one of the most frightening.

Tasks that you may expect to “come naturally”, like breastfeeding, bathing or settling a crying a baby can become traumatic if your new baby does not seem to want to cooperate!
You need to remember that while, deep down, many women expect the “mothering instinct” to kick in and save the day, realistically the majority of women who cope “naturally” with their babies have either had lots of experience with babies, or have had some help!

Gaining confidence and learning what works best for both parents and baby can take time. If you do not have experience, seek out some sound, practical advice early in the piece, rather than later.

In Baby Care, we introduce some basic tips and offer helpful advice in caring for your new baby. Most importantly, we direct you to people and organisations who can provide you with sound knowledge, experience and practical skills to build your confidence in managing your baby.

Read on to find out more about caring for your baby and take some time to visit the Essential Discussion Groups for some “real” parenting conversations!
