Open Face Neon Channel Letters Night View Building Sign The Edison

The Exterior Signs For The Edison Restaurant at Disney Springs.

Here is a look into creating The Edison Restaurant Exterior Signs. This project consists of two sets of Open Faced Neon Channel Letters for the new restaurant at Disney Springs at Disney World in Orlando FL. One set of Channel Letters went on the tower and other set on the side of the building.

This restaurant was designed to look like a 1920s electric company (see below). To give the signs a look and feel of an old electric company, some of the Letters on the tower are made with neon filled crackle tubes. This gives those neon letters a moving electric effect which appears to be blinking at times.

The Tower Sign has a custom raceway that tapers out from top to bottom with the decorative edges of the towers design. The challenging part of this job was to make sure that the letters would fit within the edges, but also line up nicely. Notice that the three top letters are smaller.

The original concept for the signs came from the architect firm Gensler. The job was assigned to Visual Sign Design by White Sign Company, which built and installed the signs.

Inspiration for The Edison

The Edison is a lavish, “Industrial Gothic” themed restaurant and entertainment venue. The 1920’s power plant transports guests back to an era of invention, discovery, and imagination.

As always with Walt Disney World, there is a fascinating back story for these dining locations.  Maria and Enzo were Italian immigrants. They dreamed of having their own bakery and found land in Florida that used to be an old air terminal. Back in 1930s, this terminal was a bustling place for the Golden Age of Travel.  Maria and Enzo bought the former air terminal land to build their dream bakery which is now the location of Pizza Ponte at Disney Springs.

The Edison is the old power plant that was part of the property Maria and Enzo bought.  It offers dining and bar areas, and at night there is a dance floor for dancing and entertainment. The entertainment will no doubt be the most unique and diverse in the Disney Springs area, with palm readers, DJs, and contortionists, to name a few.
